New Term Orientation | Mississippi Association of Supervisors

The Mississippi Association of Supervisors is pleased to invite all Mississippi county supervisors, those newly elected and those returning for another term, to attend New Term Orientation. We hope everyone will take this opportunity to meet, greet, and learn.

The Mississippi Association of Supervisors (MAS) will hold a New Term Orientation for all county supervisors who will hold office during the 2016-2019 term. ALL county officials – both newly elected and re-elected – are encouraged to attend this Orientation program. Registration is $75 per official.

Miss. Code Ann. §19-3-41(6) authorizes counties to pay travel expenses for newly-elected county supervisors to attend this type training session:

The board of supervisors of any county, in its discretion, may expend funds to provide for training and education of newly elected or appointed county officials before the beginning of the term of office or employment of such officials. Any expenses incurred for such purposes may be allowed only upon prior approval of the board of supervisors. Any payments or reimbursements made under the provisions of this subsection may be paid only after presentation to and approval by the board of supervisors.

An introduction to the staff of the MSU Center for Government and Community Development
MAS Legislative Process
MAS Member Services
Statutes and other laws/regulations of importance to elected officials
- Purchasing laws
- Ethics laws
- State Aid Road Construction

There will be a photographer onsite set-up to take individual studio photos of all county officials for use in the 2016-2020 edition of the Directory of County Officials. Please plan to have your photograph taken during the time you are here. Also, for elected officials, please download and complete the informational form found below and return during orientation-this form asks for personal information such as name etc. for inclusion in our database and for use in the Directory mentioned above.
